It is a sad fact that nearly everyone who is transgender will have to deal with depression at some point in their lives. Nearly half of all transgender individuals will attempt suicide, you need to help bring this number down! Don’t be just another statistic, you are better than that, you will leave a hole in the lives of those around you. You are important and deserve to be loved.
When you realise you are starting to feel depressed, break the cycle by doing something that brings you joy. It is often hard to do joyful things when you are feeling down but you must force yourself to break the cycle of spiralling depression. Be patient, it can take time to feel better, and it's normal for your mood to improve slowly. Take care of yourself, make sure you eat healthy, get enough sleep, and exercise regularly. All these things can help you feel better. Try to do things you enjoy, like gardening, going to the movies, or taking a walk. Stay in touch with friends and family, and confide in someone. Talking even without a solution can often help sort out your own thoughts and feelings and give you emotional support. Remember your feelings are valid. Avoid alcohol and drugs, these can make depression worse. Break overwhelming tasks into smaller ones, and do what you can, as you can. Learn about depression, education can help you stick to your treatment plan and recognise your triggers and how to break the depression cycle. Work with a doctor or therapist. They can help you identify triggers, create a plan for when symptoms get worse, and prescribe medication if needed. Consider starting therapy. Psychological therapy can be an important treatment for depression.
